US President Donald Trump has approved a plan to attack Iran, but has not yet ordered its execution. This was reported on June 18 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

"President Trump has informed his senior aides that he approves of the plan to attack Iran, but does not yet approve of its implementation," the newspaper quoted sources as saying.

The publication noted that the American leader ambiguously answered a question from journalists about a possible strike on the territory of Iran.

"I can do it, or I can't do it," Trump said.

It is clarified that Trump does not order a strike because he hopes for Tehran's abandonment of its nuclear program.

On June 12, Trump announced that the United States remains committed to a diplomatic settlement of the conflict with Iran. He also noted that Iran "could have been a great country if it had given up hopes of obtaining nuclear weapons."
