The Moscow Zoo has chosen a name for a baby gorilla

About 217,000 people took part in the voting of the Active Citizen project, choosing a name for a baby Western lowland gorilla born at the Moscow Zoo. This was reported on the website of the Moscow City Hall on Wednesday, June 18.
The most votes — 75,328 (almost 35%) — were scored by the Kvito option. This is the name of a city in Angola, where a significant part of the population of western lowland gorillas lives, the Moscow City News agency notes.
Zuberi's name (translated from Swahili as "strong") came in second place, with 54,290 people voting for him (just over 25%). The third was the Kuango variant, named after a tributary of the Kasai River in the Congo basin — 40,100 votes (about 18.5%).
The cub was born in early February. His parents— the female Kira and the male Vizuri— carefully take care of the baby. You can see the family in the Primates pavilion of the Moscow Zoo. Now the animal spends almost all of its time in its mother's arms, the website notes. kp.ru .
The names were proposed taking into account the habitat of gorillas in the wild — in the tropical and mangrove forests of Equatorial Africa, writes "Moscow 24". Four of the five variants began with the letter "K" as a sign of respect for the mother of the cub.
