Russian gas supplies via Nord Stream 2 to Germany may resume now. This was stated to Izvestia on June 14 by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev, commenting on the frequent news about plans to outbid or restart the project.

"One of the Nord Stream 2 pipes is intact, it was not damaged. And Russian President Vladimir Putin has long proposed using this fourth line to supply gas. It is fully ready, the test gas has been pumped in there. And, in general, it would not be difficult with the proper political will of the German side to launch at least 27 billion cubic meters," he said.

Nechaev stressed that the supply of Soviet and Russian gas was an important factor in the well-being of the German economy. Therefore, it is not surprising that in Germany there are voices from both individual politicians and entire economic circles that imports should be resumed.

"But for now, political considerations prevail over economic and national interests. Unfortunately, this is the choice of the German side. Therefore, we can only count on the fact that at some stage the national and economic interests and the interests of the population, among others, will prevail and the relevant energy cooperation can be resumed," the ambassador concluded.

On June 2, the British publication UnHerd reported that Merz insists on an eternal ban on cooperation with the Russian Federation in the form of supplies via the Nord Stream–2 gas pipeline, as this could ruin European industry. According to the author of the article, the decision of the German Chancellor is meaningless, since the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe has economic and strategic advantages.

Merz 28 may during a press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin, said that the German government will do everything to prevent the resumption of operation of the pipeline "Nord stream – 2". Merz said that Germany will continue to increase pressure on Russia in the field of tightening sanctions.
