Russian Kanikovsky became the world judo champion in the weight category up to 100 kg.

Matvey Kanikovsky, the Russian European judo champion, became the world champion in the weight category up to 100 kg on Wednesday, June 18.

Kanikovsky defeated Japanese Dota Arai in the weight category up to 100 kg. The bronze medal was awarded to Russian Arman Adamyan in this weight category.

The championship takes place from 13 to 20 June in Budapest. According to the decision of the executive Committee of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Russian athletes can participate in the tournament in a neutral status.

Earlier, on June 16, Russian judoka Timur Arbuzov won gold in judo in the weight category up to 81 kg. It was clarified that the athlete defeated Georgian Tato Grigalashvili, a three-time world and European champion.
