Russian banks have started blocking transfers to tokenized cards
A service for freezing payments to tokenized cards has been launched in the National Payment Card System (NSPK) to combat fraud. More than 20 banks have already joined it, NSPK CEO Dmitry Dubynin told Izvestia in an interview at SPIEF 2025.
The service blocks transfers to such cards in the first 48 hours after opening. We are talking about those that are generated in a banking application or in a separate special utility (for example, Mir Pay) and stored on the mobile device on which they were released. Several tokens can be created for one physical "plastic" on different devices.
"The system is working successfully — we receive positive feedback from participants and banks, which in many cases is really enough for a person to realize what is happening and not allow scammers to deceive themselves," Dubynin said.
According to him, it is necessary to continue to look at how the behavior of scammers is changing. This cannot be called a complete victory in the fight against scams, but it is a good step, the head of the NSPK believes.
