Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of joint development with Russia of critically important raw materials, including rare earth metals. This was stated on June 18 by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation, Dauren Abayev, during the Russia-Kazakhstan business dialogue at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

According to him, in the first quarter of 2025, 38 promising sites with estimated resources of copper, nickel, coal, gold and rare earth metals were identified in Kazakhstan. Abayev stressed that the global demand for critical raw materials today significantly exceeds supply, and this trend is only increasing.

"We have such a promising niche where Kazakh business together with Russian business could work now," Abayev said.

The diplomat also expressed confidence in the potential for mutually beneficial development of these resources with the participation of companies from the two countries.

On May 29, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the republic was counting on a strategic partnership with Russia, namely the Caspian pipeline for the supply of oil. In his opinion, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) will become a "good tool" for transporting oil through Russia to European countries.
