Chekunkov spoke about measures for the development of the Far East and the Arctic

The Far East and the Arctic are developing in several directions. In terms of economic development, more than 3.7 thousand investment projects have already been launched. This was announced on June 18 by Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, in the Izvestia studio at SPIEF 2025.
"The Far East and the Arctic occupy 55% of Russia's territory. And, of course, if you create Moscow or the Moscow region everywhere, there won't be enough resources. But in this regard, development is carried out according to reference points, which necessarily follow two directions: economic development, which, in fact, should generate resources, and social development, which should make the environment for people's lives better and better," he shared.
Chekunkov said that in terms of economic development, more than 3.7 thousand investment projects with a total volume of 11 trillion rubles have already been launched. In addition, leading energy companies are investing 30 trillion rubles in the Arctic.
According to the minister, the development of the Far East and the Arctic is currently creating a new economy for a generation to come, as was the case with the rise of Western Siberia and Kuzbass, which supported the Soviet Union with food.
In addition, Chekunkov added that a master plan program is also underway, which was launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin for 25 Far Eastern and 16 Arctic cities. At the same time, an analysis was conducted with residents for each city, where measures were taken to increase wages, landscaping, services and services needed in the city, the construction of embankments, cultural and sports facilities.
It is noted that the initiative is planned until 2030 for the Far East, and for the Arctic — until 2035.
On May 21, the Plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev, announced that the financing of the Arctic master plans within the framework of national projects would amount to 106 billion rubles.
