Riigikogu (Parliament) Estonia has adopted amendments to the law in the final reading, which may lead to the ban of the Estonian Orthodox Christian Church (EHRC). This was announced on June 18 by the State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of ERR.

According to the publication, 68 deputies voted for the adoption of the new version. 17 people opposed the document, including the opposition, the Conservative People's Party (EKRE), Priit Sibul, a member of parliament from the Isamaa party, as well as two non-factional deputies.

"Among the important changes, churches and other institutions have extended the deadline for making changes to their charters from two months to six months," the article says.

On April 24, Estonian President Alar Karis did not approve amendments to the law, which were directed against the EPCC. According to him, the amendment to the law does not comply with the Estonian Constitution.

Before that, on April 9, the Estonian parliament approved a law obliging to sever ties with the Moscow Patriarchate. According to the Sputnik Near Abroad agency, in fact, the law prohibits the EPCC, and therefore it must sever all ties with Moscow or prepare for trial.
