The Pulkovo Airport team has developed a unique operational plan in case it is necessary to accommodate a large number of aircraft forced to land at alternate airfields. On June 18, Leonid Sergeev, General Director of Northern Capital Air Gate LLC, informed Izvestia on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"The team has developed an operational plan, we have coordinated it with the Ministry of Transport, with all law enforcement agencies, with all organizations that work at the airport. We have become a single system," he said.

According to him, Pulkovo Airport faced a serious challenge when, during the May holidays, many flights were diverted to the St. Petersburg airport. Sergeyev noted that if usually no more than 10 planes arrive on the reserve per day, then 109 of them arrived.

After that, as the CEO noted, an operational plan was created, which involves the joint use of equipment and equipment from various airlines in the event of an emergency. In addition, in case of an emergency, neighboring airports will be opened, which usually do not operate at night.

"Technology, flexible workforce, plus our own mobile resource management technology allows the airport to function in absolutely any political or weather conditions. We are just ready for anything," Sergeyev added.

Earlier that day, the Pulkovo Airport development project was presented at the SPIEF. In the footage, you can see the layout of the future airfield with the reconstructed infrastructure. The illuminated building, aircraft, and a wide parking area have been renovated as part of it.
