Lavrov discussed escalation of tension in the Middle East with the Omani Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the escalation in the Middle East by phone with his Omani counterpart Badr Bin Hamad Al-Busaidi. This was reported on the agency's website on June 18.

"During the conversation, they discussed the unprecedented escalation of tension in the Middle East, which resulted from a large—scale Israeli military operation against Iran in violation of the UN Charter and international law," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During the conversation, the heads of state stressed the importance of ending hostilities as soon as possible, as well as preventing further geographical expansion of the conflict zone, which could lead to tragic consequences for the entire region.

The day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia sees Israel's unwillingness to peacefully resolve the conflict with Iran. He called the situation alarming and called on the parties to exercise maximum restraint and switch to diplomacy.
