The Moldovan authorities are trying to isolate the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, for her policy, which is at odds with the course of the current pro-European leadership of the country. Ilan Shor, the leader of the Moldovan opposition political bloc Pobeda, said this on June 18 in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

According to him, the politician is being purposefully persecuted for his independent position. In addition, he stressed that the authorities' persecution of the legitimately elected head of the autonomy is a despicable step.

"Today's dictatorial regime in Chisinau has chosen the easiest way — to simply isolate an inconvenient leader so that he cannot tell the truth to people," said Shor.

The oppositionist also noted that it is extremely difficult to predict the outcome of the criminal prosecution of Yevgenia Hutsul.

On Wednesday, June 11, a court in Chisinau extended the house arrest of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, for another 30 days. She was detained on March 25 at the Chisinau airport when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for 30 days.
