The European Union (EU) is considering the possibility of abolishing the visa-free regime for Israeli citizens, Euronews reported on June 18, citing sources inside the European Parliament.

It is reported that the new procedure, approved by the EU legislature, provides for the suspension of the visa-free regime in case of violation of the norms of the UN Charter, human rights, principles of international humanitarian law, as well as ignoring the decisions of international judicial authorities.

According to sources, the initiative may be applied to Israel in connection with UN accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.

It is also reported that the proposal to amend the entry rules was initiated by several political factions of the European Parliament, pointing specifically to the situation around Israel.

Earlier, on June 12, the United Nations General Assembly (UN) adopted a resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that 149 countries voted in favor. Only 12 States opposed the initiative.
