Failure on the Unified State Exam is not a verdict: the education system provides several options to remedy the situation. Victoria Podsukhina, a teacher and head of regional teaching at the educational company MAXIMUM Education, told Izvestia about the procedure for failing exams on June 19.

According to her, first of all, it is important to understand the difference between the minimum scores for obtaining a certificate and passing scores in universities. For the certificate, you must score at least 24 points in Russian and 3 points in basic mathematics. The requirements of universities are much higher and vary depending on the specialty and prestige of the educational institution.

Graduates who have not passed the minimum threshold in compulsory subjects are given the opportunity to retake on the reserve days of the main period or in September.

"Now graduates have the right to retake one of these subjects once this year, without waiting for the next one. The dates of July 3rd and 4th are specially allocated for this purpose. However, it is necessary to take into account an important nuance: when retaking, only the last result is taken into account, the previous points are canceled," the teacher warned.

Statistics show that 74% of the retake participants improve their results. However, it is important to remember that if the exam procedure is violated (using cheat sheets or phones), the right to retake the current year is lost.

Additional deadlines are provided for those who did not attend the exam for a valid reason (illness, family circumstances). The documents must be submitted to the state examination commission of the region.

The certificate is issued within three days after the announcement of the results. At the same time, it is possible to apply to universities even before receiving final points — universities independently download data from the federal system.

"If all the planned retake attempts are unsuccessful, the graduate still has the opportunity to prepare and take the exams next year. This time interval can be effectively used for high—quality training," explained Podsukhina.

Earlier, on May 17, Alexander Khvostov, Director of relations with the educational community of MAXIMUM Education, told Izvestia about popular mistakes when applying to a university. According to him, choosing a university rather than a specialty can lead to disappointment in studies already in the first years. Career guidance is needed first, then a choice of profession, then a specialty, and only after that, a university.
