The ban on Russian gas supplies proposed by the European Commission (EC) is an attack on the German economy. This was announced on June 18 by the leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel.

According to her, citizens and enterprises of the country will suffer significant damage in the event of a ban on gas imports from the Russian Federation.

"Brussels wants a complete ban on gas imports from Russia. <...> Germany must fight back against these attacks on its economy," Weidel wrote on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The day before, the Reuters news agency reported that the EC had proposed a ban on imports of pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia by the end of 2027. According to the newspaper, imports under long-term contracts will be prohibited from January 1, 2028.
