Beer is a high—calorie drink, and its consumption leads to an increase in body weight and the appearance of a characteristic beer belly, and the cobalt content in beer foam has a serious effect on the heart and blood vessels. Alexander Umnov, a lecturer at the Department of Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told about this on Wednesday, June 18.

The doctor explained that because of this, the so-called bovine heart syndrome develops, in which the expansion of the heart cavities and thickening of the walls occur. This leads to increased stress on the organ and accelerated wear of the heart fibers, he added.

Umnov warned that people with beer addiction often develop hypertension and varicose veins, which can later lead to coronary heart disease, venous thrombosis of the lower extremities, as well as pulmonary embolism.

"Regular consumption of beer negatively affects the gastrointestinal tract. A person who abuses beer experiences pain and heaviness in the stomach, bitterness in the mouth, and heartburn. Due to irritation of the gastric mucosa, chronic gastritis develops," the expert said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Umnov clarified that for men, a dangerous dose starts from 800 ml of beer, and with regular consumption of even half a liter of beer, women can develop cirrhosis of the liver, which leads to disruption of vital organ functions.

On May 23, Andrei Svintsov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, said that advertising non-alcoholic beer was in fact an advertisement for alcoholic beverages disguised as the word "non-alcoholic."

On January 17, Sergei Leonov, head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, said that deputies had asked experts to study the effects of alcohol without alcohol on children. According to him, if it is proved that a certain psychological dependence is already developing when drinking such a drink from an early age, deputies will come out with proposals to ban advertising of non-alcoholic beer, as well as to ban its sale to minors, RT reports.

Earlier, on January 16, Ekaterina Kashukh, a gastroenterologist and expert at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia that overeating and alcohol negatively affect health and can lead to an exacerbation of chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to alcoholic hepatitis.
