The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation indicated the elaboration of a strategy for energy cooperation with Cuba

Russia and Cuba are working on an energy cooperation strategy until 2050. This was announced on June 28 by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.

It is clarified that this issue was raised during a meeting between Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"The head of the Ministry of Energy told the Cuban side about the energy strategy adopted in Russia until 2050. The meeting participants discussed the possibility of preparing a strategy for energy cooperation between Russia and Cuba based on this document," the Telegram channel said.

In addition, the parties discussed Russia's participation in a project to modernize Cuba's energy system, as well as the involvement of Russian companies in a project to build a new 200 MW power unit.

According to Tsivilev, it is necessary to train qualified specialists for the successful development of the electric power industry in Cuba.

The Central Bank of the Latin American country also spoke about the complete abandonment of the dollar in trade with the Russian Federation.

On April 5, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko opened a branch of the Southern Federal University in Havana and discussed bilateral cooperation in various areas with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart had repeatedly stressed the strategic importance of the two countries' partnership.
