The Russian luge team was not allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympics

The International Luge Federation (FIL) did not allow Russian athletes to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, the decision was made as part of a vote. This was announced on the official FIL website on June 18.
"At its 73rd congress in Tampere, Finland, the International Luge Federation (FIL) voted to continue suspending Russian athletes from FIL competitions, including the qualification process for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The decision was made during a democratic vote held on June 18, 2025," the publication says.
During the first vote, the question was raised about maintaining the 2022 and 2024 resolutions. As a result, 24 people voted for the exclusion of Russian athletes, seven were against this decision. One ballot was declared invalid. During the second vote, 24 voted for exclusion again, and eight supported the Russian athletes.
"The Congress has made its position clear. This result reflects our collective responsibility to maintain fair and safe competition. We fully respect the diversity of views in our community, especially from our athletes," said FIL President Einars Vogelis.
