Almost 85% of the medicines that are brought to the Russian market are produced domestically. Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia about this on June 18 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"More than 70% of the number of packages on the market today are domestic drugs. If you look at the market launch, then over the past year and a half, almost 85% of the drugs that are being launched on the market are of domestic production. The pandemic has forced us to treat this not just carefully, but with a high level of responsibility," said the head of the Ministry of Health.

According to him, Russia is making huge strides towards drug safety, both industrial and scientific, as well as regulatory.

"This is a planned work that should also be carried out in all areas, including those related to vital medicines," Murashko explained.

He added that the development of neurotechnology plays a significant role in Russian medicine.

"First of all, these technologies definitely have a great future, since they are both invasive and non-invasive [techniques], with implantations of certain medical devices or non-implantation techniques. Today, they show themselves even at the current stage of development as breakthrough technologies," the minister noted.

According to him, there is a high demand in neurotechnology today in the field of rehabilitation.

"This is the restoration of functions, this is exoprosthetics, and many other things that are going into rehabilitation today. Plus, neurorehabilitation is retraining the brain for certain new functions, in particular, post—stroke, eye diseases, Parkinson's disease, and many other areas that are simply becoming more accessible in terms of treatment," Murashko emphasized.

It is clarified that in this regard, the diagnosis has proven itself well. According to the head of the Ministry of Health, a large number of wearable medical devices are emerging today — this is another area for the development of innovations.

"In general, there is definitely a place for these technologies and trends in the concept of longevity and in the concept of increasing healthy life expectancy. And especially wearable devices. Today, it has already begun to occur — this is processing with the help of artificial intelligence, and the most modern forms of it, and, of course, the further it goes, the more it will come to medicine," he concluded.

On June 15, Izvestia reported that Russian scientists from Rosatom had developed a domestic drug aimed at combating oncological diseases. It is specified that previously it was produced only in one country, now it will be manufactured in Russia and using domestic raw materials. The new drug is aimed at fighting prostate cancer.
