- The media reported on Trump's unwillingness to lower the ceiling on Russian gas prices

US President Donald Trump opposes the desire of the European Union (EU) to lower the ceiling on prices for Russian oil. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on June 17.
"In his comments at the G7 meeting in Canada on Monday evening, US President Donald Trump stated that he would not support further energy sanctions against Russia at the moment," the material says.
The newspaper also writes that, according to Maria Shagina, an expert on sanctions at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the alliance's plan will not be effective without the support of the United States.
In addition, she also believes that without Washington's support, the EU will not be able to force its own members to "obey" their will.
On May 16, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, threatened to lower the ceiling on Russian oil prices and strengthen sanctions against the Russian financial sector. In addition, she noted at the time that the EU would impose sanctions on oil tankers.
On June 16, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that the EC's proposals to abandon Russian gas include a ban on concluding new gas contracts. It is clarified that this decision was made as a result of the EC's intentions to reduce imports of Russian oil and gas to the EU by 2027.
