At a meeting on June 18, the Federation Council approved a law on the creation of a national digital service in the Russian Federation.

According to Artyom Sheikin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, the document provides for the creation of a legal framework for the introduction of a single multifunctional information exchange service.

"For example, citizens will be able to confirm their education, entitlement to benefits, or age (for example, when checking into a hotel) through a digital ID. At the same time, the organization that ensures the operation of this system must be a Russian legal entity, of which the owner of the social network is a participant, and have exclusive rights to the relevant software registered in the register of domestic programs," he said.
