The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) found local resident Sergei Shiyan guilty of committing a crime against Russia under the espionage article and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. Information about this was published on the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on June 18.

"The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic has handed down a verdict in a criminal case against 36-year-old local resident Sergei Shiyan. He was found guilty under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (espionage)," the statement said.

Investigators of the FSB regional Directorate established that the man was collecting and transmitting information about the deployment of Russian Defense Ministry units on the outskirts of Makeyevka, DPR, to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. When trying to leave Russia in December 2022, the man was detained by law enforcement agencies.

It is noted that the convict will serve his sentence in a strict regime colony.
