Callas threatened to turn off the tap to Russian gas

The European Commission's (EC) plan to abandon Russian gas "turns off the tap forever." This was announced on June 17 by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
"Now we turn off the faucet forever. Russia will no longer be able to use energy as a weapon against us," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
She noted that the EC's proposal is to ban the import of Russian gas by the end of 2027.
On the eve of the European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen said that the EC does not intend to pay compensation to EU countries that are gradually abandoning Russian gas.
Prior to that, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that the EC's proposals to abandon Russian gas include a ban on concluding new gas contracts. It is specified that this decision was made as a result of the EC's intentions to reduce imports of Russian oil and gas to the EU by 2027.
