Ushakov announced the US proposal to suspend normalization of relations with Russia

The United States has proposed to take a pause in bilateral contacts with Russia aimed at normalizing the dialogue. This was announced on Tuesday, June 17, by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
"The Foreign Ministry explained that at first it was agreed to hold the next contact in the context of normalizing relations in Moscow, but then the Americans suggested taking a break," Ushakov said, answering questions from journalists.
He noted that further agreement on the place and time of the next meeting would be reached between the US State Department and the Russian Foreign Ministry. So far, this issue has been "somewhat suspended".
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said yesterday that the United States had canceled consultations with Russia on normalizing the work of the embassies of the two countries. She expressed the hope that the pause would not be prolonged.
On June 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to the normalization of Russian-American relations. According to him, the bilateral contacts of the states are now in a more correct position than they were under the administration of former President of the United States Joe Biden.
