Installing water meters can be beneficial for consumers, especially in the face of rising tariffs. This opinion was shared by lawyer Artur Gevorgyan in an interview with Izvestia on June 17.

Earlier, on June 16, it was reported that the Ministry of Construction had developed a draft government decree according to which Russians would pay more for water in the absence of meters.

"If the cost of water without a meter increases, it becomes cost-effective to own a meter. Many people consume more cubic meters than they would pay by the meter," the expert noted.

According to him, if, for example, 10 cubic meters of water were used, and the standard without a meter is only 5, then you need to pay only for 5 cubic meters. The remaining 5 cubic meters. They will be taken into account in the general household needs (ODN) and distributed among all owners.

"Until the lack of a meter becomes really unprofitable - when overpayments hit their pockets hard — people will not install them en masse. The tariff increase is a step, but not so radical as to solve the problem instantly," the lawyer concluded.

On March 27, the Ministry of Construction approved amendments to the set of rules for the design of outdoor networks and water supply facilities. Among the three applied scientific studies, the results of which formed the basis for updating the set of rules, the concept of decentralization of water supply to residents of the Russian Federation became particularly significant for the industry. Within the framework of this concept, water in cities, towns or individual houses should come from an individual source.
