The statements of US President Donald Trump, which he made at the G7 summit, show that he is more an ally of Russia than countries supporting Ukraine. This was reported by the New York Times (NYT) on June 17.

"The incident showed how close Trump has become to Russian leader Vladimir Putin since he first came to power, and how alienated the US president has become from American allies who have rallied around Ukraine," the publication says.

It is clarified that Trump made a statement about the fallacy of excluding Russia from the G8 the day before his alleged meeting in Canada with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. According to the newspaper, the US leader has repeatedly criticized the Ukrainian president and accused him of unwillingness to end the conflict.

On June 16, Trump called Russia's exclusion from the G8 a mistake. The US president believes that if this had not happened then, there would be no conflict between Western countries and the Russian Federation now. The G7 currently includes the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, France and Japan.
