Vladimir Shapovalov, Deputy Director of the Institute of History and Politics at Moscow State University, assessed the chances of the two countries in the conflict between Iran and Israel.

In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, June 17, the specialist noted that both sides do not have the resources to completely destroy each other due to the impossibility of conducting a ground operation. Now each side is striving to weaken the enemy as much as possible.

According to the political scientist, Israel's attempt to resolve the conflict by blitzkrieg was unsuccessful, and the statements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are a demonstration of political will for both internal and external audiences.

Shapovalov also criticized the capabilities of the Israeli missile defense system.

"The iron dome is like a wooden shield against a cannon shell. It helps against primitive weapons, but it is useless against modern types of weapons," he explained.

He added that neither Israel nor Iran has a clear advantage right now. Israel eliminated a number of high-ranking Iranian officials and scientists, but Tehran did not respond in kind. There are also more civilian casualties from Israel.

Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced its intention to continue operations against Israel until its complete destruction. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allowed the possibility of eliminating Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Earlier in the day, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Israeli authorities were not ready to embark on a peaceful settlement of the conflict with Iran. He also noted that the Russian Federation sees the unwillingness of the Israeli authorities "to turn to any mediation services and generally enter a peaceful settlement path," reports RIA Novosti. 360.ru . Meanwhile, the Russian side and President Vladimir Putin expressed their willingness to provide mediation services, but Israel did not respond to this offer.

Peskov also said that the Russian Embassy in Tehran is working on the issue of the evacuation of Russians from Iran amid the conflict with Israel. Prior to that, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russians could leave Iran through the Astara border crossing on the border with Azerbaijan, RT writes.

On the same day, former UN Deputy Secretary General Sergei Ordzhonikidze believes that the conflict may end within 15 days when missile stocks run out. According to him, the probability of an early completion exceeds 50%. The United States, in his opinion, will not attack Iran, limiting itself to logistical, satellite support for Israel and assistance to it in air defense, the website reports. kp.ru .

At the same time Pravda.Ru She wrote that strict media censorship is being introduced in Israel. IDF Colonel Kobi Mandelbit has banned the publication of footage of damage to military installations, air defense launches, missile strikes and broadcasts from battery locations. It is also forbidden to distribute videos from social networks without censorship checks. According to the authors, this is due to the preparation of society for a protracted conflict.
