The authorities of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), after Russia's assistance in liberating the Kursk region from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), will send 1,000 sappers to the region to assist in demining the territory. This was announced on June 17 by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, who is on a working visit to Pyongyang.

"Chairman of State Affairs Kim Jong-un decided to send one thousand sappers to Russia to mine the Russian territory, as well as five thousand military construction workers to restore destroyed infrastructure facilities," Interfax quoted him as saying.

Shoigu said that the parties agreed to continue constructive cooperation after the expulsion of the Ukrainian invaders from Russian soil. In particular, the DPRK intends to assist in the restoration of the Kursk region. In addition, at the level of the two heads of state, it was decided to perpetuate the memory of the heroic deeds of the soldiers of the Korean People's Army who took part in the fighting in the Russian Federation.

"In this regard, during the visit, the creation of a corresponding memorial complex with a museum in Pyongyang was discussed with the participation of the Russian side," the head of the Russian Security Council said.

Shoigu arrived on an official visit to the North Korean capital Pyongyang earlier in the day on special instructions from Russian leader Vladimir Putin. It was noted that during the trip he will have a meeting with Kim Jong-un.
