An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred in the area of the Kuril Islands

An earthquake was registered in the Kuril Islands area, the magnitude of the tremors was 5.0 on the Richter scale, reported on June 17 on the website of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (USGS RAS).

According to the operational data of seismologists, the earthquake occurred at a distance of 72 km from the city of Severo-Kurilsk.

There is no information about casualties or damage.

On June 12, an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 was recorded in the sea off the coast of Kamchatka. According to the USGS RAS, the tremors were recorded on June 11 at 22:26 Moscow time, 61.7 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
