- Remains of flora and fauna of the Jurassic period were first found in Kuzbass

The remains of flora and fauna discovered near Novokuznetsk, dating back to the border of the Early and Middle Jurassic, became the first find of this age for Kuzbass. On June 17, Stepan Ivantsov, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Paleontology and Historical Geology at Tomsk State University (TSU), told Izvestia.
TSU paleontologists discovered the remains of plants and animals that lived on the planet about 200 million years ago during an expedition to the Kemerovo Region.
"This is the first discovery of flora and fauna of this age for the Kuznetsk basin. There are about 40 kg of samples. These are ferns, white-seeded, horsetails, a variety of insects, beetles, larvae of freckles, mayflies. And some fish are most likely paleonisks," explained Ivantsov.
He stressed that the samples found would expand understanding of what was happening on the planet at the time of a major environmental disaster, which was the result of volcanic eruptions on the border of Antarctica and South Africa.
The day before, archaeologists discovered a Paleolithic human encampment in the Solnechny microdistrict in Krasnoyarsk. At the site "Krasnoyarsk. The site of Badalyk-1" found stone tools and bone remains, the age of which is not less than 12 thousand years. It was noted that for the first time archaeological objects in the area were found in 2020 during exploration work.
