A Belgian mercenary was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony for participating in the conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on June 17 by the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

"Martin Jacques was found guilty in absentia of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the Telegram channel says.

It is specified that Jacques joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army as a mercenary. For a monetary reward, he participated in combat operations against the Armed Forces of Russia.

The ministry noted that he was put on the international wanted list. In addition, the court sentenced the mercenary in absentia to 14 years in prison to be served in a high-security penal colony.

On June 10, a court sentenced a Colombian mercenary to 28 years in prison for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was noted that he was accused of participating in an armed conflict, illegally crossing the border, smuggling weapons and carrying them illegally, as well as committing terrorist acts.
