The government has given priority to eco-friendly transport in public procurement

The Russian government has adjusted the procedure for purchasing vehicles for state and municipal needs, setting a priority for environmentally friendly vehicles. The Cabinet of Ministers announced this on June 17 in its Telegram channel.
Instead of diesel and gasoline cars, government customers must now primarily purchase electric vehicles and vehicles powered by natural gas, the report says. This decision should help improve the environment and support domestic enterprises that produce environmentally friendly transport, the Cabinet said.
"At the same time, it is allowed to purchase gasoline or diesel cars in an exceptional case — if it is impossible to purchase cars using alternative fuels, for example, due to the lack of gas filling and charging infrastructure in the planned territory of operation," the government said.
Earlier, on June 6, it was reported that in May 2025, 786 electric vehicles were sold in Russia, which is 28% less than at the end of last spring (1,096 units). The result in May was also worse than in April, when 793 fully electric cars were sold in the country.
