CEO of KAMAZ Kogogin to travel to SPIEF in an unmanned truck

Sergey Kogogin, CEO of KAMAZ PJSC, will travel to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on an unmanned Mayak-2 truck. As the company's press service reported in its Telegram channel on June 17, the top manager will repeat his last year's race to personally verify the development of the autonomous technology of the Naberezhnye Chelny auto giant.
The Mayak-2 car is an upgraded version of the Mayak-1 model. It is developed on the basis of the sanctions-resistant version of the KamAZ-54901 truck. The company noted that the entire component base, which is responsible for ensuring autonomous movement, in a new-generation drone is also sanctions-resistant.
The machine has been modified to take into account the operation of the Mayak-1 in real conditions. It is stated that the car has improved technical characteristics in terms of hardware for autonomous driving: the sensor installation sites have been revised, more productive navigation solutions, longer-range lidars and radars, and a more stable communication system have been used.
On May 20, it was reported that the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation will submit a draft federal law on unmanned vehicles by the end of the year, it will be developed jointly with manufacturers of such vehicles and interested government agencies.
Currently, driverless cars are cruising on the roads of Russia within the framework of experimental legal regimes (EPR). Since 2023, unmanned truck movement has been carried out on the M-11 Neva. In early April 2025, autonomous trucks entered the Central Ring Road. 67 unmanned trucks have already traveled over 9 million km, the Ministry of Transport said earlier.
Prior to that, on April 10, it became known that cargo unmanned vehicles will begin mass production at KAMAZ in 2028. The Naberezhnye Chelny auto giant has provided three unmanned vehicles for moving in the Moscow region — two Mayak-1 trucks and a second-generation Mayak-2 car.
