French President Emmanuel Macron said that American leader Donald Trump had reacted "relatively positively" to the bill on the imposition of sanctions against Russia. He made the corresponding statement on June 16 in an interview with reporters at the G7 summit.

"The question I asked President Trump this morning is whether he will allow these U.S. senators to move forward, and he responded relatively positively, which is good news for me," he was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

On June 17, Trump announced that he did not want to tighten sanctions against Russia, as he expected to reach agreements on Ukraine. He also added that he would be "very happy" if a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine could be reached.
