Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock will leave the German parliament at the end of June this year in connection with her election to the post of Chairman of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This was reported by Der Spiegel magazine on June 16, citing a statement from the Bundestag.
"According to an internal statement from the Bundestag, the former foreign minister officially announced on Sunday that she would resign her mandate in parliament," the newspaper said.
On June 2, Burbock was elected to the post of Chairman of the UN General Assembly. She was the only candidate for the position and received 167 votes out of a possible 193. On June 5, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called her presidency a disgrace.
