- Austrian right-wingers have called on the government to explain Zelensky's visit to Vienna

The right-wing national conservative political party, the Austrian Freedom Party (APS), has sent a request to the country's parliament calling for an explanation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Vienna. This was announced by the party's press service on June 16.
"The party has submitted an urgent request to the chancellor to the National Council due to Zelensky's visit to Vienna. (...) Austrians have the right to know why their country is losing trust on the world stage, abandoning its own neutrality, thereby jeopardizing its security," the publication says.
In addition, the APS stated that the citizens of Austria were not asked about their desire to support Ukraine and pay for military assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Party members believe that Kiev's sponsorship may lead to the fact that the Austrian authorities will need to look for excuses to reduce social spending on pensions and security measures.
Earlier that day, Zelensky appealed to the Austrian authorities with a request to help ensure that Ukrainian men who evade military service were returned to Kiev-controlled territory. Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen said at a meeting with Zelensky that his country would not be able to provide military assistance to Ukraine even if Vienna had such a desire.
