- The political scientist announced the EU's strategic course towards the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

The latest data on military assistance to Ukraine once again confirm Europe's strategic course towards the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by political analyst Ivan Mezyuho in an interview with Izvestia on June 16.
He noted that the European Union, together with the United Kingdom, allocates more funds to help Ukraine than their financial situation allows.
"And if, in some absolute figures, the European Union has overtaken the United States of America for the first time in terms of total military assistance to Ukraine, then in the future it remains to be seen whether a united Europe will have the resources of such a scale to assist the Ukrainian state entity in the military confrontation with the Russian Federation," the expert said.
In addition, Mezyuho pointed out that the current model of military assistance may indicate a transition to the concept of "military Caysianism" — an economic theory according to which, in times of crisis, the state should intervene and stimulate demand, which is relevant not only for the Ukrainian crisis, but also for possible future conflicts.
"I think that the change in the volume of military aid from the EU today will not significantly affect the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, based on the fact that we still need to talk not about spending, but about the weapons and ammunition that the Kiev regime receives. After all, when we talk about the volume of military aid, everything is included in it: depreciation, production of weapons, and the weapons and equipment that are supplied to Kiev. Which of these €72 billion directly reached Kiev is a big question," the expert said.
Mezyuho also warned that such an economic model is already beginning to affect the internal economy of the European Union. He expressed doubts about Europe's strategic thinking, arguing that it too often relies on short-term economic solutions in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.
On the same day, the Institute of World Economics (IfW) in Kiel, Germany, reported that in March and April, for the first time in three years since the beginning of the conflict, EU states provided more military assistance to Ukraine than the United States. It amounted to €72 billion, compared with €65 billion from Washington.
In March and April of this year, EU countries allocated €10.4 billion in military aid and €9.8 billion in humanitarian support. It is noted that this is the highest amount in two months since the beginning of the conflict.
