Poland reported an increase in discontent among citizens due to support for Ukraine
Polish citizens expressed dissatisfaction with the policy of the authorities, who continue to provide large-scale support to Ukraine, despite the protests of society. This was reported on June 16 by Myśl Polska.
"Poland, before Ukraine turned to the European Commission for help from other member states, was the first to step forward, traditionally on its own. <...> The majority of Poles oppose further thoughtless assistance to Ukraine," the article says.
The article points out that the documents recently released by deputies from the Confederation are causing outrage among both citizens and some politicians. Particular indignation was caused by the fact that Poland paid more than 100 million zlotys of interest on the Ukrainian debt in 2024. The relevant document of the Ministry of Finance was presented by Deputy Grzegorz Placek.
"Instead of a serious state, we become someone on the principle of a philanthropist who gives everything away for free and, as it turns out, even pays back loans taken out by others," the article emphasizes.
In addition, the interest repayment agreement was signed back in 2023 by the Law and Justice Party (PiS), without taking into account the opinion of the majority of Poles. It is clarified that an Opinia24 studio poll conducted in February showed that 53% of Polish citizens oppose further military assistance to Ukraine. Only 29% are ready to support the continuation of arms supplies.
On June 7, Polish President-elect Karol Nawrocki spoke out against Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU). He stressed that the Ukrainian authorities should understand the existence of their interests in such European states as Poland and Hungary. As an example, he cited the exhumation of Poles, victims of the Volyn massacre.
