The European Commission (EC) is ready to accept fixed US duties of 10% to prevent a trade conflict with Washington, but under certain conditions. This was reported on June 16 by the Reuters edition with reference to the German newspaper Handelsblatt.

"The proposal to our American colleagues will be made only if certain conditions are met and will not be positioned as permanent," the agency said in a statement.

It is clarified that this decision was made in connection with the intention of US President Donald Trump to rely on some revenue from tariffs to finance tax cuts. According to the publication, the EC hopes that the proposal to impose duties on all exports from the European Union (EU) to the United States will prevent the imposition of higher duties on cars, medicines and electronics.

In addition, European countries are also ready to reduce duties on cars that were manufactured in the United States, and, according to preliminary information, to change technical or legal obstacles in order to make it easier for American manufacturers to sell their cars in Europe. However, the negotiators with the United States have not yet agreed to impose restrictions on import duties on cars from the EU in the amount of 10%.

On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For Europe, this figure has been increased to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again. Then Trump threatened to impose import duties of 50% on the European Union due to the lack of progress. However, he later postponed the entry into force of this decision.
