US President Donald Trump is quite skeptical about the idea of Washington's involvement in the conflict between Israel and Iran, the American television channel CNN reported on June 16.

"The White House team said that the president is extremely skeptical about the idea of dragging the United States into a fight [between Israel and Iran]. Such a step would be fraught with danger," the article says.

It is noted that the participation of Americans could lead to an expansion of the conflict beyond the current belligerents, as well as unleash a "grueling endless war" without a clear end goal."

In addition, US intervention would have reinforced the deep contradictions in Trump's political concept, and would have forced him to violate the basic principle of the "America First" movement.

Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said on June 16 that the United States was responsible for the aggression of Israel, which attacked the country. Washington allowed the attack, violating all norms of international law, the Iranian leader pointed out. He also added that the Iranian people are not the initiators of military action.

On June 15, Trump, against the background of the confrontation between Israel and Iran, said before departing for the G7 summit that Washington was considering the possibility of concluding a deal to resolve the conflict. He pointed out that the current situation provides a good chance for concluding an agreement, and confirmed the US intention to support Israel's defense.
