Experts assessed the attitude of Russians to sorting garbage
91% of Russians are aware of separate garbage collection, but only 31% sort household waste, while the main obstacle is the lack of infrastructure — only 44.6% of citizens have access to it. This conclusion was reached by Ingosstrakh experts, who, together with the Financial University, conducted a study on the attitude of Russian residents to this environmental initiative.
The majority of residents of Moscow (84%), Kemerovo (82%), Barnaul and Omsk (80% each) support the initiative of separate waste collection. At the same time, the level of support in Tolyatti and Makhachkala is noticeably lower — 45% and 60%, respectively.
More than half of the respondents (68.7%) noted that they do not encounter problems with garbage collection and removal in their cities. The situation is particularly favorable in Naberezhnye Chelny and Novokuznetsk, where 85% of respondents say there are no problems in this area. At the same time, in Krasnoyarsk and Samara, the number of citizens who do not face difficulties in the field of separate garbage collection is noticeably lower — 34% and 55%, respectively.
Only 44.6% of Russians have separate garbage collection containers near their homes. In Yaroslavl and Moscow, this figure reaches 95% and 87%, respectively, which is significantly higher than the average.
31.7% of Russians regularly practice sorting garbage at home. Residents of Barnaul (68%) and Moscow (61%) are the most active. 35% of the respondents are engaged in waste sorting among men, and 29% among women.
"Responsible attitude to the environment is an integral part of Ingosstrakh's corporate culture. We systematically implement environmental practices: we sort waste in offices, use electronic document management, participate in tree plantings, clean-up campaigns, and other initiatives. These steps are our contribution to preserving the environment in the interests of long—term care for the future," said Alina Poroshina, Director of Public Relations at Ingosstrakh.
