Two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who invaded the Kursk region have been sentenced to 16 years in prison. Information about this was published on the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on June 16.

"The 2nd Western District Military Court has handed down a verdict in the criminal case against the shooters of the 145th battalion of the 116th separate Brigade of Territorial Defense of the armed formations of Ukraine Maxim Yemelyanov and Vitaly Nazarenko," the statement said.

According to the prosecutor's office, early in the morning on October 20, 2024, both men with weapons and an armored personnel carrier invaded the Kursk region, heading to the village of Olgovka, from where they transmitted intelligence and intimidated the civilian population. In addition, the convicts prevented the evacuation of civilians. On the same day, at about 14:00 Moscow time, the Russian military stopped the terrorist activities of the militants.

The men were reportedly sentenced to 16 years in a high-security penal colony, with the first five years served in prison.

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced a Colombian mercenary to 28 years in prison for participating in military operations on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. The man was accused of participating in an armed conflict, illegally crossing the border, smuggling weapons and carrying them illegally, as well as committing terrorist acts.
