In Russia, the number of fatalities in road accidents has decreased with an increase in the number of accidents

From January to May 2025, 44.4 thousand deaths occurred in Russia. Accidents with deaths or injuries, which is 0.7% more than in the same period last year. The number of dead in them amounted to 4.6 thousand people (-1.9%), and the wounded — 55.7 thousand people (+0.5%). This was reported by Kommersant on June 16, citing data from the State Traffic Inspectorate.

The largest increase in accidents was recorded in Ingushetia (+78.3%), Chukotka (+50%) and Tuva (+46.8%). The subjects with the highest increase in the number of deaths on the roads were the Oryol Region (+100%) and the Ivanovo Region (+70.6%), as well as the Kamchatka Territory (+60%). The leaders in the absolute number of accidents were Moscow (3 thousand accidents), Krasnodar Territory (1.9 thousand) and Nizhny Novgorod Region (1.57 thousand).

It is noted that the number of accidents involving mopeds and equivalent vehicles increased year—on-year by 25%, and deaths in them - by 29.3%. Motorcycle accidents increased by 16.2% (deaths — by 20.2%). At the same time, the number of road accidents involving trolleybuses increased by 39.2%, while those involving trucks and tractors decreased by 13.2% and 16.8%, respectively.

Among certain types of accidents, a 17% increase in collisions with parked cars was recorded. The number of bicycle collisions increased by 14.2%, and vehicle rollovers increased by 12%. At the same time, accidents related to collisions with animals and horse-drawn vehicles were 12% and 25% less than a year earlier.

On June 10, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a government bill on assessing the quality of driving schools. Amendments are being made to the Law on Road Safety. According to the document, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will develop a "list of indicators, criteria and frequency of performance assessment" for driving schools.
