Over the past weekend, 244 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 61 people were killed and 809 injured. 50 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 16 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in Omsk, in the evening, a 49-year-old bus driver without passengers traveling to a night parking spot at an unregulated intersection, when turning left, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, a 42-year-old motorcyclist, who was traveling in a motorcycle helmet and protective gear, was killed.

25 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which four people were killed, 47 more road users, including four children, required medical assistance. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

In the Khabarovsk Territory, on 139 km of the Khabarovsk-Komsomolsk—on-Amur federal highway A-376, a 43-year—old driver of an intercity bus traveling on the Khabarovsk-Briakan route with 13 passengers in the cabin drove off the road at night, followed by a vehicle rollover. One passenger was injured in the accident and was hospitalized, five more were slightly injured and, after receiving medical attention, were sent for outpatient treatment. Previously, the cause of the incident was the driver's sleep at the wheel.

As a result of 96 accidents, 27 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 69 outside their area of operation, 10 pedestrians were killed, and 91 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 25 child pedestrians, 17 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

In Barnaul, a 45-year-old crossover driver ran over an eight-year-old girl who, without dismounting, crossed the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing on an electric scooter. At the same time, the young user of the means of individual mobility (SIM) was unaccompanied by adults. The girl was injured and sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

The State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of parents to the need to ensure the maximum safety of their children in the summer, a period when schoolchildren who are resting from classes spend a lot of free time outside, and as a result, they are more likely to get into car accidents. Lack of control over children's behavior and leisure activities often leads to injury or even death of young road users.

The ministry called for an explanatory conversation with children about the rules of safe riding on SIM, bicycles and scooters, paying special attention to the need to dismount when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. It is important to strictly control and prevent, rather than encourage, attempts by children and adolescents without experience, confident driving skills and solid knowledge of traffic rules to use SIM cards.

Over the past two days off, 112 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 120 young road users were injured, including 55 passengers, 13 cyclists and 19 motor transport drivers. Three children were killed, two of whom were passengers in passenger cars, and another was a pedestrian.

So, in the Voronezh Region, on 717 km of the M-4 Don highway, a 50-year-old minivan driver drove off the road in the rain and crashed into a metal support of a video recording device. Two of his sons, born in 2011 and 2016, were killed in the accident, who were in the back row of seats with their seat belts not fastened at the time of the accident, and another passenger was hospitalized with injuries. For a preliminary reason, the driver of the passenger car did not take into account the road and meteorological conditions, as a result of which he was unable to ensure constant monitoring of the movement of the vehicle.

In Ulyanovsk, a 46-year-old female crossover driver drove an eight-year-old boy out of the car at a store, accompanied by his mother and stepfather, and ran over the same child at the beginning of the movement from the parking lot. The boy died. Previously, the driver did not see the young pedestrian, who squatted in front of the car and began to pick up the fallen toy. At the same time, the mother immediately went to the store after getting out of the vehicle, and the stepfather, who was intoxicated, went to the sidewalk, leaving the child unattended.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urges drivers to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities in the summer. Remember that children's behavior on the road is often unpredictable, so take special care when driving through courtyards and parking lots near shops.

The department reminded parents and immediate relatives of underage road users of the need to be more attentive to their children. Retroreflective elements should be used on children's outerwear to improve the visibility of young pedestrians in the evening.

"We also recommend that motorists refrain from risky driving, exceeding the speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers — especially during rain on wet roads. We draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, avoiding even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy. Always remember that their lives and health depend entirely on you, adults," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

Earlier, on June 11, it was reported that on the M-11 Neva toll highway in the Tver region, emergency commissars' cars were equipped with camera complexes with the ability to record traffic violations, including speeding.
