The Israeli and US authorities will face serious risks when trying to destroy Iran's underground nuclear facilities. CNN reported this on June 16, citing a report from the British Royal Institute for Defense Studies.

"For this (the destruction of Iran's nuclear program. Significant firepower and assistance from the United States will be required, but even these joint efforts may face difficulties in penetrating key Iranian nuclear fuel enrichment plants that are deliberately buried deep underground," the article says.

According to the TV channel, the Natanz uranium enrichment facility was attacked by Israel, but it is unknown "to what extent" Israeli weapons will be able to reach the "buried facility." At the same time, the exact depth of the object in Natanz is unknown. According to some estimates, it may be 8 m.

"The report says that Israel allegedly has bombs capable of penetrating to a depth of about six meters, depending on the composition of the soil and the thickness of the concrete," CNN said.

Presumably, Iran's second key uranium enrichment facility, the Fordo plant, is located even deeper — from 80 to 90 m underground. Even American massive penetrating bombs, which strike to a depth of about 60 m, cannot reach it, the publication says.

According to the material, even with the use of the most powerful bombs by the enemy, Iran has other ways to protect its facilities. For example, it's harder to attack buildings that have long, narrow shafts with blast-proof doors.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that amid the growing Iranian-Israeli conflict, oil from the Middle East is "under the gun" and may be exported intermittently. According to the publication, among the possible scenarios, Israel may decide to strike the Iranian island of Kharq in order to limit the flow of crude oil.
