Iran continues to fulfill its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and opposes the presence of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. This was announced on June 16 during a weekly press conference by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bagai.

"As a signatory to the Treaty on the Non—Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, we are aware of our obligations and believe that nuclear weapons should not exist in any state in Western Asia," he said, according to the Reuters news agency.

He also said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry is in coordination with the country's parliament on the issue of consideration by Iranian deputies of Tehran's withdrawal from the treaty on the Non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons.

According to Baghaei, Iran has always adhered to the principle of a "Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction."

Yesterday, the official representative of the National Security Commission of the Parliament, Ebrahim Rezai, said that Iran should withdraw from the NPT. According to Rezai, this treaty was supposed to ensure Iran's security, not be the reason for its absence.

On June 14, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced the cancellation of negotiations between the United States and Iran on the nuclear deal on June 15. He also noted that diplomacy and dialogue between Washington and Tehran remain the only way to a "lasting peace" between the countries.
