Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova ironically commented on the statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the possible imposition of new sanctions against Russia at the end of this month.

"Does he find out about what is happening in the world from last year's newspaper, which is stuffed with summer shoes?" she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Earlier in the day, Merz said that at the European Union (EU) summit on June 26-27, a decision on new sanctions against Russia may be made. He also noted that additional restrictions are needed in relation to the Russian side.

Alexander Frolov, Deputy Director General of the National Energy Institute, in an interview with Izvestia on June 11, called the EU's anti-Russian sanctions a marketing policy. He stressed that for this reason, the European Union cannot stop adopting sanctions against Russia.
