Merz has allowed an early decision on new EU sanctions against Russia

The European Union (EU) summit on June 26-27 may decide on new sanctions against Russia. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told reporters about this on June 15 before leaving for the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Canada.
According to him, European countries should make progress in negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, and additional restrictions against the Russian Federation are needed for this.
"That's why we want to introduce new sanctions in the EU at the end of the month. You all know the proposals," Merz said, and the speech was broadcast on the DWS News YouTube channel.
Alexander Frolov, Deputy Director General of the National Energy Institute, in an interview with Izvestia on June 11, called the EU's anti-Russian sanctions a marketing policy. He stressed that for this reason, the European Union cannot stop adopting sanctions against Russia. The expert also recalled that European leaders really want to be involved in the dialogue between Moscow and Kiev.
