A monument to a Soviet soldier was dismantled in the Czech city of Litomerice.


In the city of Litomerice, located in the north-west of the Czech Republic, the monument "Honor and Glory of the Soviet Army" was removed from its pedestal and transported to a warehouse. This was reported on June 15 by the publication Novinky.
It is noted that the fate of the monument has been discussed for years. According to the newspaper, the dismantling procedure was accompanied by a protest by a group of young and elderly people, who also brought posters and banners. It is clarified that local residents compared the demolition of the monument to the rewriting of history.
"I doubt that the biggest problem in Litomerzhitsa is a fifty-year-old statue. And considering that we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of our homeland, mostly by the Red Army, this is a really strange way of worshipping," said one of the protesters, Anna Vitalachilova.
On April 2, the Russian Embassy in Tallinn announced the destruction by the staff of the Estonian Military Museum of monuments dedicated to Soviet sailors, soldiers, and officers who liberated the republic from Nazi invaders at the Tallinn Military Cemetery.
