Gennaro Gattuso has become the new head coach of the Italian national football team.

Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed head coach of the Italian national football team. This was announced on June 15 on the website of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

According to the president of the organization, Gabriele Gravina, Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football.

"His motivation, professionalism and experience will become the basis for coping with the new obligations of the national team in the best possible way. <...> I thank him for his willingness and full dedication with which he accepted this challenge," said the FIGC head.

Football coach Gennaro Gattuso is the 2006 world champion of the Italian national team. As a member of Milan, the athlete won the national championship, the Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup twice.

On June 8, it was reported that Luciano Spalletti will leave the post of head coach of the Italian national football team after the friendly match with Moldova on June 9. Under his leadership, the national team failed to overcome the 1/8 finals stage at the 2024 European Championship and lost to Norway 0:3 in the first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament.
