Szijjarto criticized the EC's plan to abandon energy supplies from Russia

The European Commission's (EC) plan to abandon energy supplies from Russia, developed under pressure from Ukraine, will harm the interests of the entire European Union (EU). This was announced on June 15 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
According to Szijjarto, EC President Ursula von der Leyen proposed this only in order to deprive Hungary and the whole of Europe of Russian energy, according to the demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Szijjarto, the EU wants to force the Hungarian people to pay the price for supporting Ukraine, to double or triple the cost of utilities for citizens. He also believes that the union is violating its own European rules.
"Sanctions require a unanimous decision, whereas trade policy measures require a majority. That is why the measure, which is essentially a sanction, is disguised as a measure of trade policy, thereby violating European rules and ignoring the will of the member states," the ORIGO portal quotes him as saying.
On June 1, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the republic would defend its own interests in banning energy supplies from Russia to the EU. According to him, such a bill is harmful.
